摘要

The first seminars in Australia on Japanese meridian style acupuncture started in 1995 with Edward Obaidey, an English acupuncturist who was practicing in Japan and was a student of Masakazu Ikeda. He gave a series of seminars in Brisbane before returning to Japan. Masakazu Ikeda was known as a master practitioner of Japanese style meridian therapy, Keiraku chiryo. He had won the Manaka prize (Japanese Acupuncture's Nobel Prize), for a series of books that summarised and commented on the Net Jing (SuWen, Ling Shu), the Nan Jing, the Shan Han Lun and the Prescriptions of the Golden Chamber (Obaidey, 1996). Obaidey was able to convince his Sensei, Masakazu Ikeda, to come and teach Master Classes in Australia in 1996. Although invited to Europe and the USA, this was the first time Masakazu had visited the West. Masakazu continues to teach in Australia once a year and a network of study groups has formed culminating in a postgraduate program (which has not yet achieved university recognition).
