The ability of the Space Inertial Reference Unit (SIRU~(TM)) to meet the needs of the spacecraft community for a high reliability, long life, continuous operating gyro has been demonstrated with more than 1.8 million on orbit operating hours. Working with the customer community, Northrop Grumman has developed the Scalable SIRU~(TM) to be the next generation Hemispherical Resonator Gyro (HRG) based system while retaining the SIRU~(TM')s heritage. This paper discusses recent test results and innovative features incorporated in the Scalable SIRU~(TM) design, which is now entering production. These realized features include gyro performance enhancements, unique mechanical packaging, and electronics.
