A method is explicated for producing cloud free and cloud-shadow free images from SPOT panchromatic images over a given region. It is well known that optical remote sensing images often encounter the problem of cloud covers, especially over the humid tropical areas. Cloud shadow accompanied with cloud is also the problem. The problem can be partially overcome by acquisition of multiple images at different time over a given region. By mosaicking the cloud free and cloud-shadow free areas in the set of images, a reasonably cloud free and cloud-shadow free composite scene can be made. This paper relates to an algorithm for generating cloud free and cloud-shadow free multi-scene mosaics of SPOT panchromatic images.
