In the current investigations, satin weave carbon/epoxy laminates were fabricated using 37 layers of fabric and SC-15 resin system using Vacuum Assisted Resin Infusion Molding (VARIM) process. High strain rate impact testing was carried out using modified Compression Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar (SHPB). Using modified compression SHPB, the sample is subjected to a single input compression pulse as against the multiple input pulses that it would be subjected to in the case of conventional SHPB. The samples were tested along inplane (both in fill and warp) as well as through the thickness directions. Quasi-static tests were also performed for comparison purposes. The samples were tested at strain rates of 17, 87,163, 490 and 817/s. Dynamic stress-strain response curve was plotted for each sample. The results of the study indicate that there is considerable increase in the peak stresses for the high strain rate loading as compared to the static loading, though the strain to failure was reduced to almost half.
