Six SFRJ projectiles were flight tested to date as part of an ongoing technology demonstration program. Projectiles were fired at muzzle velocities of ~900 m/s from a 155 mm, 45 CAL gun and confirmed ramjet functioning was achieved with three of the projectiles. Initial problems regarding structural aspects of the pilot- and fuel grains were solved. A reliable ignition system was developed and tested. Radar data confirmed drag and spin prediction methods. This confirmed the possibility of stability related problems caused by projectile de-spin. Flight tests also demonstrated that sustained combustion of the fuel grain could be problematic. Addressing this problem is hampered significantly by differences in propulsion behaviour between test bench firings (without spin) and dynamic conditions during flight.
