The performance of the small form factor MEM-ECL has been shown to meet telecommunications requirements for important optical parameters including power, SMSR, polarization extinction ratio, RIN, and linewidth. A frequency accuracy of +-1.25 GHz has been obtained by combining an integrated etalon wavelength locker with closed loop control of the silicon MEMS actuator that controls the laser cavity end mirror. The sensitivity to external thermal and mechanical perturbations has been minimized through a combination of thermo-mechanical design and closed-loop servo control.
