AN INDIRECT ELISA FOR ANTIBODIES AGAINST MYCOPLASMA HYOSYNOVIAE ARTHRITIS

Arthritis due to infection with Mycoplasma hyosynoviae (M. hyos) is well known in several countries. The infection may cause endemic outbreaks in individual herds, resulting in high incidence of lameness and subsequent antibiotic treatments. Previousattempts to analyse serological profiles have been hampered by antigen cross reactivity with other Mycoplasma spp. and by increasing unspecific reactivity with age. This study describes the development of a novel M. hyos specific ELISA based on deoxycholate (DOC) extraction of membrane lipoprotein antigens.
