Serological analyses for porcine brucellosis are performed before boars enter the AI stations, periodically while staying there and before leaving the facilities. Furthermore, serological analyses are performed before export of live animals to countries outside the European Union. The prescribed serological methods are laid down in council directives and in OIE standards. However, infection with Yersinia enterocolitica 09 is known to cause serological cross-reactions (1) in the Brucella tests, as thelipopolysaccarides in the two species are almost identical.
