To investigate the very complex mechanisms of corrosion, the use of several characterization tools is required, both at the macroscopic and microscopic levels. Among these tools, Raman spectroscopy and photoelectrochemistry have already attracted much deserved attention. Both techniques use light as a probe and can be applied at the micron scale. Therefore, combining Raman and photoelectrochemical imaging in the same experiment appears interesting because it should allow to examine the correlations between the spatial distributions of chemical, structural and electronic properties of the corrosion products. A first example is given, dealing with the case of thermal scales on stainless steel.
