摘要

In order to achieve efficient small-scale all-optical signal processing devices, integration of components delivering functions such as light generation, detection and single moded channel waveguing on a single chip should be realised. Following their proposal in 1987 by Yablonovitch, photonic crystals (PhCs) have attracted much interest as due to their properties in light confinement and guidance, are considered to be promising candidates for the realisation of high density integrated optical systems.
