Reconstruction of missing monthly and annual mean sea levels in the oldest part of the Stockholm sea level series

The Stockholm sea level series is the longest one in the world, starting in 1774, and of increasing importance for climate research. For the first 50 years, however, there are gaps in the series. It now seems that most of these gaps can be filled by a transformation of monthly and annual mean sea levels from Copenhagen to Stockholm. A formula for this is presented, and a simple test shows that it, in spite of its approximate character, is quite useful.
