One of the most critical elements in predicting future vehicle mobility for military and agricultural vehicles is evaluation of dynamic meteorological processes and their resultant effects on the state-of-the-ground. Field experiments are on-going near the Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), Waterways Experiment Station, Vicksburg, MS to collect temporal and spatial climatological data, while concurrently collecting related soils data, in an effort to correlate these data with measured vehicle performances as a function of the state-of-the- ground. A Class-A weather station has been placed at a WES local test site and enhanced to collect/store standard meteorological/soil moisture data at 30-minute intervals, which is daily downloaded by cellular phone to ERDC. Additional National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) data published for other nearby weather stations were also utilized to predict vehicle performances to evaluate distance-from-collection effects on tactical mobility predictions. This paper presents data collection procedures, correlations, and results to date.
