Shaking table tests, recently performed on 1/6th one-storey reduced scale steel structure by means of a six-degree-of-freedom earthquake simulator, are illustrated. The model was designed reproducing a full-scale 2-storey R/C building prototype according to appropriate scaling factors. The programme test was split in two different phases including both tests with the structure fixed directly on the shaking table and tests with the model embedded into a sand deposit pluviated into a flexible soil container. In this last case, "random excitation tests" and "main test runs" under a single-direction, horizontal sine-dwell motion were carried out. The whole system, I.e. Soil, foundation, over-structure such as soil container and shaking table, was monitored by means of a network of 56 instruments, consisting of accelerometers and displacements transducers and strain gauges.
