摘要

In the seismic design of earthquake-resistant buildings symmetry and regularity are commonly recommended. But in a lot of cases these two requirements cannot be met. In many European and Balkan countries the common practice is to place masonry infill walls in the frames. In this paper the influence of frame irregularity in elevation on the seismic response is studied. It is well known that the structural irregularity can produce a lot of damages during strong earthquakes, if adequate protection is not provided. Some recommendations as modification of the behaviour factor and some specific provisions on detailing of the local regions for buildings with vertical irregularity are given in EC8. The effectiveness of these provisions has to be checked through a number of numerical and experimental analyses.
