EnBW REPOWERING PROJECT IN RDK EXPERIENCE WITH THE ALSTOM GT26 GAS TURBINE

EnBW Kraftwerke AG is a 100% subsidiary of EnBW AG, Karlsruhe, one of the largest German Utilities. The company operates nuclear power plants, conventional power plants, hydro, wind and regenerative plants for the generation of energy and heat. The business activity is mainly focused on the European Market. Long-term supply agreements signed in 1993 committed the company to providing top performance. To be able to meet this obligation, the company decided in 1995 to upgrade unit 4 of the Rheinhafen steam power plant (Rheinhafen-Dampfkraftwerk -RDK), from a hard coal unit into a modern, peak-load, combined-cycle power plant and to increase the unit output from 100 MW to approx. 360 MW. At that time Unit 4 had been out of operation.
