The paper focuses on the influence of the finite precision in the wavelet filters and disturbance signals to demand a low computational complexity and efficient use of DSP solution applied to disturbance data compression technique, which depends on the finite precision, stability and convergence of the used techniques. The results show that the finite precision produces low degradation level with significant improvement of the compression ratio if a suitable choice of the SNR value in the SNR surface is made. Such conclusions are obtained by using the standard disturbance compression method (SDCM) and the enhanced disturbance compression method (EDCM) which performs a previous sinusoidal component estimation, its subtraction from the stored data in DFR (Digital Fault Detection) equipment, and subsequently the application of the wavelet compression technique in the error signal obtained from the subtraction operation.
