As an application of the magnetostriction, this paper considers control of deflection and vibration of a beam which consists of the layers of the magnetostrictive material, permendur and the non-magnetic material, copper. The exact behavior of the beam can be simulated, by taking into account the stress-dependence of the magnetostriction,. The theory indicates that the eigen frequencies of the beam change according to the applied magnetic field, which is verified by the experiment. We also attempt to suppress the transverse vibration of the beam by controlling the external magnetic field.
