In this paper, the method to estimate the optimal skew angle about the Interior Permanent Magnet (IPM) motor with step-skewing effect was formulated and the effectiveness was described. First, theoretical equation to decrease the specific harmonic components of the induced voltage was introduced and the skew angle was found. Secondly, the relation between the evaluation value and the skew angle was shown and the effectiveness of the obtained optimal skew angle was expressed by the dynamic characteristics analysis using 2-D FEM.
