A fracture-mechanics approach has been followed to estimate the fracture stress of Al-7%Si-0.3%Mg alloy castings as a function of size and shape of pores in castings. Fracture strain was predicted by using the Voce equation for work hardening. Estimated fracture stress and strain values compared well with experimental findings. The methodology and results are discussed in the paper.
