Thermography using hot-air excitation has shown to be an ideal match to measure the wall thickness of cast gas turbine blades. The measurement principle is demonstrated on a test object and an actual implementation used in a manufacturing plant is introduced. As an example of a real component the measurement of a gas turbine blade is shown. Analytical calculations for optimizing the process and helping calibration complete the discussion.
