Large Eddy Simulation (LES) has been proposed as the next generation of turbulence models for certain classes of engineering flows. Specifically, it is naturally suited to flows which are inherently three-dimensional and unsteady, such as external flows over bluff bodies with vortex shedding. However, for LES to become a generally useful "turbulence model" for engineering calculations, various improvements in the methodology are required. Primary among these improvements is the capacity to accurately model wall-bounded flows within a coarse-grain approach.
