This paper addresses the place in the European R&D programs of both NEXUS the European network of Excellence for Microsystems and Eurimus the strategic Eureka programs for the development of MEMS products. The first part of the paper describes the objectives, the new organisation of NEXUS Association and gives an overview its main activities, which are based on User Supplier Clubs specific to market segment, task forces Market Analysis, Product/technology Road Map, dedicated thematic workshops and different tools of communication and dissemination: MST News, Web page, and the main highlights and results from these activities. The second part of the paper present the Eurimus program. It was bom within the NEXUS community as a strategic Eureka industry-driven initiative aiming at developing new technologies and applications in the field of Microsystems in Europe. It is led by major European MEMS companies with the aim of industrial prototypes at the end of the project this means close to the market. As a conclusion, the paper presents a proposal for the future of both NEXUS and Eurimus within the 6th European FWP Frame Work Program starting in 2003. NEXUS as thematic network will enlarge its network on a world wide basis, through country's NEXUS liaison contact and establishing a partnership with US MEMS organizations. Eurimus will be organized to take the lead of large Integrated Projects.
