This paper summarizes a seismic damage assessment conducted for a model district, 1 km by 1 km, of Seoul City. First, GIS database on the depth of surface soil layer of Seoul city area has been constructed using the existing boring logs. The soil amplification map of Seoul city area has been made using wave propagation analysis. More detailed investigation has been done on the ground conditions and soil amplification in the model district. All the buildings and houses in the model district were surveyed and classified into 11 categories. Using vulnerability functions in HAZUS, the seismic loss probability has been evaluated of the postulated earthquake of Magnitude 6.3 located 27 km from the model district. The results were translated into GIS database. The damage scenario has been used to establish earthquake emergency response plan of Seoul City.
