Promoting Renewable Energy in the Leading Industrialized Countries for Global Benefit

Availability and costs of energy is one of the essential questions of the human society. The individual focus of energy supply varies from basic needs in developing countries to energy efficiency and conservation of environment and resources in leading industrialized countries. Along with ongoing deregulation and liberalization of the energy markets increasing supraregional energy exchange as well as small systems of renewable energy sources and distributed generation will be implemented to a significant extent. Due to the fact that in industrialized countries real competitiveness of RES and DG in comparison with large high efficient power plants is hardly to achieve, additional concepts and measures are necessary to increase the energy system and market compatibility and thus to increase the energy economic benefit of these additive energies. This aspect leads to decentralized integrated energy supply concepts and systems with energy mix including storage systems, cogeneration, possible power recovery and load management using modern information, communication and automation technology. Furthermore virtual large generation units consisting of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) and Distributed Generation (DG) can be integrated and introduced in the energy market as contractable partners like other conventional power plants. This concept of increasing the energy economic benefit of RES/DG by intelligent energy supply systems based on modern information and communication technologies is an important aspect for promoting Renewable Energy in the Leading Industrialized Countries for Global Benefit.
