摘要

Very often, equipment supplied to the Royal Navy falls short of its suitability for the job. Invariably, this is due to both a lack of understanding of the crew tasks and an in-ability to harness modern electronic technology. Landing a helicopter onto the moving deck of a warship in rough weather is an extremely demanding task. A key problem is assessing the motion of the ship to ensure that it is within limits. This article is about providing industry with appropriate Human Factors techniques and data to design a display system for conveying roll and pitch information to flight deck crews. The Human Factors techniques described here are aimed at helping industry to avoid design howlers by adopting a task-oriented approach. The MOD Warship Support Agency asked Live ware to work with them in the design of a display system for showing ship roll and pitch information.
