Management of EMC - A practical, value for money solution to the problems of the electronic age

Electro Magnetic Compatibility (EMC) is the name given to the co-existence of electronic systems and their ability to operate correctly without interfering with other equipment. The proliferation of electronic technologies on modern warships we are now witnessing has created tremendous problems for designers and integrators. This coupled with ever tightening budgets has demanded a new and innovative approach to the management of EMC. The Royal Navy's latest class of attack submarine - the Astute class represents one of the most complex system of systems ever constructed. Furthermore due to the nature of submarine operations it is paramount that the vast number of electronic systems on board function correctly in a confined space often in harsh climatic conditions.
