The US Navy's Integrated Power System (IPS) program consists of development efforts in four phases, namely Reduced Scale Advanced Development (RSAD), Full Scale Advanced Development (FSAD), Integrated Fight Through Power (IFTP) and fully integrated. The RSAD effort developed and tested prototype hardware, systems, and component technologies at or less than full scale. The FSAD, IFTP and fully integrated efforts lead to the manufacture and test of full-scale prototype components and systems at the Test Site in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The FSAD effort concentrated on the 4160 VAC medium voltage propulsion portion of the IPS. The results of that effort were previously reported and are not addressed in this paper. The IFTP effort deals with the integration and test of Integrated Fight Through Power (IFTP) components which demonstrate the system goals of providing survivable DC and low voltage AC (450 VAC) ship service power. The fully integrated phase of testing will involve total system operation which includes the integrated generation, propulsion, ship service and control systems. During the year 2003, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) for the IFTP system and a partial Phase III testing at the U.S. Navy's Land Based Engineering Site (LBES) were conducted. This paper reports the results from the testing efforts done to date and includes description of the LBES IFTP equipment and interconnection requirements, overall test objectives and methodology.
