It is broadly recognized that ladle slags play a key role in the steelmaking process. In order to ensure suitable metallurgical results keeping a low operation cost it is necessary to properly design the combination of fluxes to be added. In this work, the results of several trials carried out in plant to optimize flux additions during tapping and at the Ladle Furnace are summarized. Some tests using recycled slag and less slag volume were also performed. A computer program was developed to clarify the effect of flux additions on the final slag composition.
