Conceptualization Implementation of Safety Aspects in Surgical Robotic System

摘要

This paper describes safety aspects of medical robots as a fundamental and crux issue of robots operating on human patients and life critical, unstructured environment. The main differences between the safety strategies in standard industrial robotic system and surgical robotic systems (or, in general, medical robotics) are discussed by justifying the safety aspects in the later case as the fundamental specification in the system design stage. Considering various formulations and suggestions made by previous researchers and our experience in the area, formulation of safety specific guidelines have been attempted in this paper, named as 'Safety Driven Design' and 'Safety Reinforcement Strategy'. The implementation issues of the said schemes in a representative non-invasive surgical robotic system have also been reported.
