Simulation of Electromagnetic Wave Propagation in Complex Media Application to Porous Media with Random Space Distribution Properties

The work presented in this communication is a contribution to the interpretation of the TDR probe signals: the paper presents a numerical model of electromagnetic wave propagation in a rectangular waveguide containing a complex medium. In practice, the complex medium represents the soil. It is modeled by a mixture of two components with respective electric perrnitiviry ε{sub}1and ε{sub}2: for instance a soil can be composed by dry matter and water. Each numerical simulation is performed using a given water ratio η, with random space distribution. The main objective is then to study the influence of ratio TJ on the electric signal. For that, Maxwell's equations are solved in time domain using the Finite Element Method. After presenting the theoretical and numerical approaches, some results are analyzed.
