On the Scalability of the BRODESSYS Decision Support System

This paper proposes a scalable architecture for the BRODESSYS decision support system which is an integrated tool for providing information to support the decision making process in the broiler industry. The successful application of the BRODESSYS on a specific business was the trigger to introduce an additional dimension in its decision capabilities, by allowing inflow of a number of businesses rather than having only one business. In practice this is achieved with the use of the Internet. More specifically an eBusiness architecture was selected and customised in a way to incorporate the BRODESSYS system. The organizational requirements as well as migration considerations to use the existing functionality of the decision making processes are investigated. The broiler production industry is a relatively big industry from an economic perspective and the proposed revision of the system can add considerable value to all businesses participating in the new scheme.
