The subject of the paper is the introduction of e-learning in a college for higher military education. The Netherlands Defence College is in especial responsible for career courses of the mid-level, high level and top level military officers and equivalent civil servants of the Netherlands Armed Forces. The educational system is organized in a traditional way. In the context of the paper, e-learning is a learning and teaching situation with the use of web technology. E-learning has 2 components. The first component is the content. The second component is the interaction between the participants of the learning and teaching process. In the paper is stated that content driven e-learning should be the first to introduce. E-learning can be applied before, during and after the course. The benefits of each phase are discussed. The introduction of E-learning as an element of the in-house course is preferable. The paper concludes with a elaborated receipt for the introduction of e-learning: who, what, how and do's and don'ts are presented.
