Radon programme in the Czech Republic-experience and further research

Radon programme in the Czech republic is now incorporated in national legislation (Atomic Act, Radiation Protection Decree, Governmental Decision, etc.), and includes prevention and remedial measures, research and development.Preventive measures cover control of soil gas radon ingress, and radioactivity of building materials and of supplied water to avoid building of new houses that could exceed the indoor radon guidance levels (200 Bq/m~3 for indoor radon and 0.5 muGy/h for indoor gamma dose rate). The radon risk estimation of individual building site during siting of a new house and building protection according to soil radon risk category and standard technical building code are obligatory.
