Mathematical morphology is a fast growing area of image processing and machine vision. It has found applications in many areas such as robot vision, medical imaging, visual inspection, texture and scene analysis etc. Many of these applications are time critical, requiring real-time processing, which can be achieved only by special purpose architectures and specialized hardware structures. In this paper implementation on a four arithmetic logic units processor for morphological image processing is presented and compared. Moreover, general-purpose architectures are referred and their capability on morphological image processing is pointed out.
