It is not clear whether cerebral blood flow changes after irradiation on stellate ganglion (SGL). We investigated the effect of linear polarized near-infrared therapy using Super Lizer~(TM) on the brain perfusions detected by Statistical Parametric Mapping (SPN96) software. In all nine people tested, significant increases were seen in cerebral blood flow to specific regions involving the left thalamus, left temporal cortex, left caudate nucleus, right occipital cortex, and right insular cortex. These results suggest that one of the reasons for the reported beneficial effects of SGL in patients with chronic pain may be improvement of the impaired brain perfusion.
