The wave transformation processes at Starling Creek Marina, Virginia have been studied using a publicly available wave transformation model, RIDE. This model simulates the following major wave transformation processes: refraction, diffraction, reflection, shoaling, energy dissipation caused by bottom friction and wave breaking, and harbor resonance. Simulation of possible wave conditions for the original bathymetry were done first, and the results indicate that waves coming from W to WSW may intrude into this creek and cause damages on piers and difficulty for vessel operation at the marina. In order to protect the marina and nearby docking piers, two alternatives on a breakwater design were proposed. This study indicates that one of the proposed plans is not able to provide sufficient protection. Harbor resonance caused by long period waves should be checked again after the existence of long period waves has been confirmed.
