This paper addresses nonlinear effects in successive wave crest height statistics. Two methods are used to derive joint distribution functions of successive wave crest heights. The first model contains second-order Stokes type nonlinearity, while the second is a parametric model based on second-order simulations. Comparisons are made between the two models. Analysis results of data from field measurements in the central North Sea are also included in order to evaluate the models. The nonlinear effects observed in the data are well predicted by the models.
