Stand structures can be excited by dynamic crowd loads to considerable vibration amplitudes which may affect the structural safety as well as the safety and the comfort of the audience. Understanding the dynamic load as a random process, the paper discusses the respective basic target design values for the dynamic load amplitude. For the serviceability limit state, additionally, some design criteria are specified. First results from a series of tests are presented providing detailed information about the inherent randomness in the dynamic load induced by jumping. The final aim of this part of the project is to develop a complete random load model for the design of future stand structures. The safety and reliability of existing structures can be evaluated on the basis of their performance, i.e. on the basis of observed vibration amplitudes. A simple method is proposed which, based on order statistics, extrapolates to the specified target value of the non-exceedence probability for recommended limits for the vibration amplitudes.
