The focus of this investigation is to study the migration of hydrocarbon pollutants through the vadose zone. After a brief presentation of the numerical simulator used, we examine the flow of hydrocarbon contaminants through a two-layer domain (a silty and alluvial unsarurated layer covering a chalky saturated aquifer). Afterwards, a numerical study is made of the role played by the physical parameters governing multiphase contaminant flow. Special interest is given to the following parameters: soil-pollutant contact time, soil permeability, and soil capillary pressure curves.
