Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway and its neighboring area span over four major earthquake belts, in which the occurrence of earthquake is rather active, so earthquake is the most serious disaster endangering the safety and stability of the high-speed running trains. Based on the seismic hazard investigation to the related areas, some key issues are analyzed such as the makeup and frame of the earthquake alarm system, the layout schemes of monitoring device and alarm patterns, etc. Two sets of alarm device are planned to monitor the future earthquake, one is mechanically driven seismometer, and the other is electronic seismometer that contains seismic P-wave detection function. By a lot of statistical analysis of seismic responses of various typical infrastructures (i.e., various girder bridges and embankments), alarm threshold for mechanically driven seismometer is derived, and M-R criterion for P-wave detection is suggested. All these points will serve reliable theoretical support for the construction of earthquake alarm system of the safety monitoring and control system for Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway.
