摘要

1. The higher loads resulting from bonding CFRP reinforcement can cause web crushing which would not arise in the steel beam alone. The reinforced section needs to be checked against this possibility. 2. Adhesive cure under cyclic loading can affect the bending stiffness and failure load of the reinforced beam. In some situations the effect is serious enough to change the failure mode of the beam from flexure with a limited rotation capacity plastic hinge to a debonding failure in the adhesive. To prevent this possibility the maximum adhesive shear stress during curing should be limited to 1.0N/mm~2. 3. The method of transformed sections is good enough for determining the properties of the reinforced section although it may need to be modified to allow for adhesive flexibility. 4. The bending behaviour of steel beams reinforced with CFRP is predictable, even when the adhesive is cured under cyclic loading as would be the case when vehicle loading is not restricted during the strengthening operation.
