A new anisotropic yield criterion for aluminum alloys

A new yield criterion, which is an extension to anisotropic conditions of Drucker's [1] isotropic yield criterion was developed within the framework of the theory of representation of tensor functions. The criterion was applied to representative sets of data on 2090-T3 aluminum sheet. Very good agreement was found between the experimental and theoretical predictions of the yield and strain ratio variation with the direction of tension. Furthermore, Taylor, Bishop and Hill (TBH) model [2] of polycrystal deformation was used to generate the full tricomponent yield surface corresponding to the given texture and predict the associated yielding behavior. Comparison with polycrystal simulations showed that although phenomenological, the proposed criterion reproduces well the main features of the anisotropic plastic response.
