Applying the Geographic Information System (GIS) to Environmentally Sensitive Land Planning at the Tainan Science-based Industrial Park

The goal of this one-year project sponsored by the TSIP administration, established in July 1998, was to improve the flow of information available to TSIP decision-makers using the GIS as a tool. Three environmentally sensitive areas, an aquifer recharge area, a geologically hazardous area, and a floodplain were chosen for study; guidelines representing minimum criteria were used in reviewing these areas. The study found the TSIP is in sensitive aquifer recharge and flood-plain areas, so recommendations for regulating land-use patterns and intensity were submitted to TSIP administrators for reference in land development and management decision-making.
