The SORG~reg; VSM~reg; All-Electric Melter for 180 t/d Container Glass—Design, Installation and First Experience

The Consol Group is the leading South African glass container producer with manufacturing facilities in Wadeville and Clayville near Johannesburg, in Pretoria and in Bellville near Cape Town. The company produces all kinds of containers, including a large variety of different glass colours, ranging from flint to light and standard emerald green, dark green, amber and blue. Color changes on the fly are made on most of the furnaces. In 2002 SORG~®, was asked by the Consol Glass Group to design a large all-electric melter for container glass. The availability of energy sources in South Africa differs significantly to those in most other countries. Much use is made of their large deposits of coal since there are no indigenous oil reserves.
