Analytical and experimental results are presented for the engineering properties of a fiber-composite-reinforced-foam core material for composite sandwich construction. The core features lightweight foam with composite web and strut reinforcements to provide the desired engineering properties. The formulation of a spreadsheet analysis method for predicting core elastic properties and density is presented. Test results for shear stiffness and density are compared with predictions. The agreement of some parameters is good. Additional test data are required to perform a valid assessment of other parameters. The initial results indicate that the analysis tool will provide an accurate, versatile, tally integrated method for supporting product design.
