A series of the investigation of a precise replication process that is divided into injection molding and replication assisted by infrared radiation has been conducted. In this paper, the experiments had been carried out using a IR4ransparent mold engraved some precise grooves on its surface for direct IR-irradiation, to compare with the result of the indirect radiant heating process; replication of CDs using a certain mother stamper. The results showed good replication in the condition that the surface of polymeric workpiece was heated above the glass transition temperature within a several second by the direct irradiation. The correlation between replication and numerically estimated temperature profile was discussed.
