We previously proposed a new cooling method for preventing electrode-tissue overheating during cardiac catheter ablation using a vibrating catheter. Our previous work has shown that vibration that results from increased flow velocity around the catheter can have a cooling effect on the electrode. In this study, we investigate the effect of contact force on electrode cooling and tissue heating during vibration using polyvinyl alcohol or myocardium as ablation tissue under conditions of no saline flow. The cooling effect of vibration is maintained over a wide range of contact force (2-30 gf).
