Numerical simulations are performed for the double-diffusive convection in a two-layer, solutally stratified aqueous solution of Na{sub}2CO{sub}3 destabilized by horizontal heating and cooling. The two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equation is solved with thermal and solutal equations on the assumption of Boussinesq fluid. Equations discretized using the control volume method are solved with the SIMPLE scheme, where the central difference is employed for both of viscous and convection terms. Results of calculations are compared with experimental ones in view of time development of flow and temperature fields, histories of local temperature and concentration, and the mass transfer rate through the interface between the two layers.
