Double-diffusive convection in Na{sub}2CO{sub}3 aqueous solutions stratified in two-layers destabilized by lateral heating and cooling was studied experimentally. The real-time holographic interferometry was used to visualize the distribution of the reflective index. Since both temperature and concentration influence the index, it was measured for Na{sub}2CO{sub}3aq. Calculated reflective index from visualized photographs were found to be reasonable. A local temperature was also measured on the central vertical line of the test section. Changes in concentration and density distributions with time were obtained by using the visualized reflective index profile and temperature distributions.
