A density-stabilizer has been newly devised and installed in the middle of a tower-style tank for simultaneous storing of warm water and ice to restrain an intermixture of warm and cold water caused by the density inversion of water at 4°C. Experimental and numerical analyses were carried out to clarify the effect of the shape of the density-stabilizer on thermal stratification in the tank. In the experiment, the variation of the temperature in the tank with time was measured for various shapes of the density-stabilizer. In the numerical analysis, the temperature in the tank was calculated for the steady state. The numerical results exhibit good agreement with the experimental results.
